Henry Sa Mataalii JR passed away in his home on January 4, 2018. He was survived by his spouse Lauren Ruth Kuhn Mataalii and their seven children. Henry was born in Laie, HI and lived in Southern California most of his life. He enjoyed his Polynesian culture more than anyone I know. He held the Samoan way of life near and dear to his heart until the last of his days. He is reunited with his parents whom he has missed dearly these past years. He loved music, singing every chance he got, loved to paint, loved his children and his wife. He gave them everything he had. His time, energy, lessons, and love.
Henry and Lauren were married July 17, 1976 in the Los Angeles LDS temple. They met in high school. Henry spent his career at Jorgensen Steel in the South Bay, and then went on to work the duration of his career at the family business, McStarlite Co. Henry is now retired and keeps busy around the house, writing his personal history, exercising, playing his Hawaiian music loud enough for the neighbors to develop a fondness of it also. Lauren was a full time mom to seven children, and made a part time career from raising and showing championship Rottweilers. She now works full time at the City of Gardena as a Nutrition Coordinator. She also spends time with her many grandchildren, gardening, and taking in a movie now and then.

My Book My Life .... The life Story of Henry S. Mataalii jr.
Please think and ponder these words of a father who loves his family ... It's been a long time since I have given any of you sound advice ... But this I wrote long ago .,, but carried it in my heart when each of you came into our lives ... one by one you came at the appointed time . I love you all individually and as a group ... This love will never fad, wear out, get lost or expire ... It is eternal in nature and from a loving father .. Thank you for enriching my life with endless laughter and joy
Dad ... Who loves you baby
This book is for my children and their children, and for the generations that will follow. This may be meaningless to a number of people, but to me my wife and seven children ….. this life that we lead, as father, mother and children was real and alive. My family are my most prized possessions in this life and the next. As I review my life, I pray that my memory will serve me well, and all that
I record is factual and true as far as I can determine. To my parents Henry and
Shirley I owe a great deal to, all the care, joy and lessons in life. I need to thank
them from the bottom of my heart. To my brother Keith and sister Sharon, I truly have been blessed to have grown up with you both thru childhood, the teenage years, and as adults. Our families have grown up together. We have supported each other through out our lives and will continue to do so in the eternities. We share a love that only siblings can understand and appreciate. To my wife Lauren, oh how sweet my life has been, because of you, I am the man that I am, and then some. I will love you thought out the eternities …. as we continue our eternal journey.
To Lauren, Maeva, Tahnee, Morgan, Marshall, Micah, Katelin and Jenna,
You are the purpose for what I wake for everyday of my life. You are my family,
my wife and my children, on loan from of course from our Father in Heaven. I promise to do my very best to raise you in the manner that is pleasing in the sight of God. And at the same time meaningful to you. That your memories of your
childhood, youth and as adults, are pleasing ones, ones that you will cherish all the days of your existence. I know that I am but a man and I have weaknesses and faults, and I pray that I would never abuse you in any way, shape or form, that will cause you any pain or anguish, I pray I will lead a life that you can look up to and be proud that I am your father.
I would hope that as you read these pages that reflect my life……. when you read each section that you get a glimpse of how I lived. The condition of the times, the environment under which I grew up under. In some instances I am like any other youth, I excelled in some things, failed and failed miserably in a number of others as well. But as I see it the good out weighted the bad many times over, and then some just for good measure.
I had come across a good number of people in my lifetime, so many good people. Thank goodness all the bad people that I have met , I could count on one hand and still have a finger or two to wiggle. And I hope it remains that way.
The fear of death has come to me, stayed with me for a while thru out my life, and at different times in my life it has scared me to death. Due in part to my ignorance and fear of it. Mainly because I didn’t understand its purpose. In stead of running away from it, I have found peace in running a long side of it. Running your course in life and when your time comes to then step thru it. And lay this physical body to rest and step thru the vial and rejoice. As there will be
others who have gone on before you who wish to once again step into your prescience and again extend to you the hand of fellowship and love. The kind of love that is eternal in nature and last beyond the standards of time.
One thought on marriage, for those of you who have yet to part take of this sweet fruit of life. Be careful, be prayerful, but most importantly be worthy to marry in the one and only place that a child of our Father in Heaven should marry, and that is in the Temple. Sealed for time and for all eternity, with children born to you under the covenant tied to you through your righteousness and the love of your Father in Heaven. With this as a milestone in your life, coupled with the gospel of Jesus Christ as your foundation. The priesthood, your testimony and faith as pillars, the scriptures as your guide and the spirit of the holy Ghost as your comforter. Pray continually, remain worthy to enter the house of the Lord, and keep his commandments. All his choices blessings will fill your life here on earth and in the life to come. I bear you this witness in the name of Jesus Christ amen…. My decedents do not settle for less than you deserve as you deserve the best … but you will receive that which you are entitled to due to your worthiness and obedience to eternal laws by which we are judged ……
